What is Mutual Self-Help Housing? |
|
They work under the supervision of a CAHI construction supervisor to build
all the homes in their building group. The number of homes
built in a group are between six to ten homes. Each household
is required to work a minimum of 35 hours per week (17.5 Head of
Household and 17.5 Work Partner/Volunteers) until all homes in a building
group are completed.
No individual or families move into any home until all homes in the group
are completed. Participants work together as a group under the supervision
of a CAHI construction supervisor to help build each other's homes.
The construction supervisor teaches safety procedures and construction
techniques prior to the start of construction and throughout the course
of construction of the homes in the group. The construction
supervisor makes sure that each phase of construction is carefully inspected
and approves as work progresses. A sub-contractor may complete
certain tasks such as plumbing, electrical, heating, dry wall, concrete
work and flooring. |
